BreathPacer App Reviews

Wow

Awsome .... Five stars if you add Ocean waves. Pleasesssssssssss

Best in class

This is the best breath pacer available. It includes fine tuning of duration to a tenth of a second and four separate adjustable phases: breath in, hold in, breath out, hold out. I tried other breathing apps and this one is the best.

Not worth the money

I couldnt use it for my yoga practice. Breaths per minutes (BPM) should NOT be fixed. needs some sounds and music selections. waist of money

Not for this price

For .99 cents, maybe....but totally NOT worth $2.99 . I could do the same thing with a clock or a watch or a timer........if they add some features like a choice of sounds, more breathing exercises, whatever---itd be a little better. But for now, dont buy it and dont believe the glowing reviews and endorsements from magazines, etc. Those HAD to be written by people connected to the developers trying to help him/her sell this app...NOT WORTH THE $.

great idea BUT

I have to see the screen to know when to hold/exhale. Need to have a more definitive sound or pause to indicate when to hold, inhale, or exhale. BUT I like the idea. I would have waited for an upgrade had I known....

Love it!

I love this application! I have been doing biofeedback and this has helped my progress so much! The only thing keeping this from five stars is the fact that I have a lot of trouble HEARING when to breathe in and out. The program I use during biofeedback has very distinctive sounds for this (which is the point when you first start using this app). I have used this app enough and have it on the same settings that I do with my doctor; so I dont really need the sounds anymore. but other than that rant I love, love, love this app!

Disappointing

The rain sounds do not demarcate between in and out breath and nothing to let you know how long to hold. So whats the point of this app? Maybe you could add a louder water drop sound as an indicator? However, the rain sounds are more peaceful than the sounds in other breath apps and it does allow screen-saver to save battery.

Great Program

This is an amazing app! You really feel much calmer after a 10 minute session. Helps me sleep better!!!

hmmm

to me: a very simple app. the only thing it does is move up and down a scale that people are just supposed to follow. I am not sure if it is really that useful.

THE BEST application

This is a simple little application, but it really is well-designed, with an intuitive interface, and sound effects that really add to the experience. Ive used it to do breathing exercises at work, and after I get home from work, and it really helps. The "help" section is well-written and informative. The graphics are great. I absolutely recommend it, and have been waiting for an application like this for a while. Thanks for creating it! I cant even think of a way to improve it!

Sound Not Good

PLEASE PLEASE make the sound easier to tell when its time to breath in and out. I DONT want to stare at the screen while breathing. How about IN....OUT....IN....OUT. Do something please?

Fully-configurable but needs sound cues

You can control just about every parameter of the app, which is really handy. Being able to choose your music, the sleep controls, etc. But as others have mentioned, it really needs to have sound cues that follow the currently selected breath timing. It might be more natural to have the waves follow their own rhythm, but youre glued to the screen otherwise. In fairness to the developers it might be a bad choice between loading the app with a hundred different sound files, or the inability of the iPhones chip to timestretch sounds .... still a great choice for a breathing app!

Great app with one serious limitation

If Im able to stare at the screen while doing the breathing exercise, it works great. After 15 minutes, I feel incredibly calm and centered, not matter what kind of mood I was in before. Thing is, Id like to be able to do this while not staring at the screen. I need to sit in front of an acne light with my eyes closed for 30 minutes a day. Other reviewers have mentioned other perfectly ordinary scenarios in which it would be possible to use this app to great effect but they cant because theyd have to stare at the screen the whole time. Unfortunately the wave sound thats supposed to indicate when to switch from breathing in to breathing out is completely useless. It sounds nice but theres no way I can tell from the sound what to do. Im surprised the app was released like this. Even testing with just one user should have uncovered this major flaw. Is it worth $3? Id say yes but... It doesnt seem like the product is being developed any more, so dont hold your breath for a solution.

No

Um the sounds stopped working on mine like 2 days after using it. And I agree, you shouldnt have to look at the screen

Horrible

Out of all of the breathing apps available, this one is certainly the worst. This is a nice try but it just does not compare.

ONE OF THE BEST BREATHING APPS

A great breathing app. I like the b.p.m. display and that you have complete control of your breathing pattern. The app displays simplistic beauty. Total control of inhale, exhale, and breath retention, what more could you ask for? This is one of the top breathing apps out there.

A great tool for Raynauds and other conditions

After a friend of mine was referred for thermal biofeedback training at Mayo for relief of migraines, I "googled" it to see if it would be helpful for Raynauds (vasoconstriction to my fingers, toes, and ears associated with cold temperatures). In one appointment the doctor explained it to me, and tried a few settings with discussion I between each trial. After a few attempts, he found my"sweet spot" in which a 3-minute session raised my finger temperatures by5 degrees F. He suggested I buy Breath Pacer for my IPAD and wrote the numbers I should start at, working slowly to be able to slow my breathing even more during my sessions. I use it 3 times daily, and not only does it help my Ds, but my blood pressure is decreased by it also. I would recommend this for people who have Raynauds, migraines, hypertension, or who would just like to reduce their stress levels. By practicing with the machine 3 times daily, I find I can slow my breathing similarly when I am hiking I or doing other activities in cold weather, and help to increase the blood flow to my fingers while I am doing what I love.

Looking at the screen IS IMPORTANT!

I just got back from the AAPB conference (American Association for Psychophysiology and Biofeedback) where I learned about this fantastic app. During the presentation where it was mentioned (HRV for treatment of concussion) the researcher mentioned that subjects DID NOT IMPROVE significantly if they DID NOT LOOK AT THE SCREEN while breathing. Go figure. Next, finding your resonant frequency is quite important. This app will start you at a ‘best guess’ based on your gender and height. But to really know you’d have to measure your heart rate variability (HRV) and find the breathing pace which maximizes your HRV (the amount/range your heart rate goes up with inhalation and down with exhalation). So if you could figure out how to watch this paced breathing app while using something like the Camera Heart Rate Variability app you could objectively determine your resonant breathing rate. Also, you need to have a regular practice (like exercise) to continue to experience the benefits). Go for it, it may just save your life someday - better HRV is associated with increased survival after heart attack.
